Iran launches video portal

10. Dec 2012

Iran may has learned from China. China has many local alternatives to services that are run by foreigners and therefor not under there control.

Iran now launched a video portal, which I expect to be heavily censored. I don’t know if this is a step towards their own local internet, disconnected from the rest of the world.

I don’t link to this portal because it’s reported to be unavailable, already and when I type “[www.]domain.ext” NoScripts ABE rules reports this:

[ABE] <LOCAL> Deny on {GET http://ir.mehr.ir/ <<< http://www.mehr.ir/, moz-nullprincipal:{[scrubbed]} - 6}

That’s the rule that causes the notification:
SYSTEM rule:
Site LOCAL
Accept from LOCAL
Deny

The standard rule shipped with NoScripts ABE (Application Boundaries Enforcer).

And this is what it’s good for:

# Prevent Internet sites from requesting LAN resources.

The question is what does the website in question try to request from the local LAN?

Well right as I tried to think about how I can figure out what it does the website works just fine. I post this anyway, just in case.
