Pluggable transports bundles updated

The Pluggable Transports Bundles have been updated with Firefox 17.0.10ESR. (2.4.17-rc-1-pt1)

Tor Browser Bundles with Firefox 17.0.10ESR (2.3.25-14/2.4.17-RC-1)

Again, like last time, I’m falling out of the normal behavior to notify only about updates labeled ‘stable’ as the other is release is a release candidate (RC) and improves lots of things.

The browser is the same and how everything behaves from a user perspective is also the same. The release candidate improves the situation for the network itself and the responsiveness as experienced by the user. The only downside is that the RC is only available in English.

You can download your desired version of the TorBrowserBundle here. Look for “development releases” if you are interested in 2.4.17-RC-1.

Re-posting of Tor Weekly News canceled

Since I’m lagging behind at least two weeks with re-posting the Tor Weekly News I came to the conclusion to drop re-posting them entirely.

One of the reasons is that I’m lagging behind, but the most concerning fact is that it is not my own content and that the scope of my blog should not consider newsletters as activity. In my opinion it is better to have nothing for weeks, now we probably have months without content, than to re-post content that is not helpful to most people I had in mind. For those interested all Tor channels still have the newsletter available and I don’t think they are all censored and even if they are the newsletter was probably the last thing they were interested in.

The newsletters did not get much attention anyway.

I will however report, re-post or whatever major updates and other things of importance.

Pluggable Transport Bundles updated (2.4.17-beta-2-pt3)

There are new Pluggable Transports Tor Browser Bundles with Firefox 17.0.9esr. They are made from the Tor Browser Bundle release of September 20 and contain important security fixes.

The bundles contain flash proxy and obfsproxy configured to run by default. If you want to use flash proxy, you will have to take the extra steps listed in the flash proxy howto.

These bundles contain the same hardcoded obfs2 bridge addresses as the previous bundles which may work for some jurisdictions but you are strongly advised to get new bridge addresses from BridgeDB.

New TorBrowserBundles (2.3.25-13/2.4.17-beta-2)

Please note that the stable bundle has been updated and you are advised to upgrade as soon as you can.

Due to some network overload, which is caused by a botnet you may want to switch to the beta bundle, which contains a few changes to better cope with the load.
